Františkovy Lázně

Františkovy Lázně were founded on the 27th of April, 1793 under the name Emperor Francis´s village and in 1807 they were officially awarded the name Františkovy Lázně. They are named after the emperor Francis I, who is considered their founder. The healing effects of  the local springs have been known since the 15th century.

The initial countryside spa with just one spring (the Francis spring), a wooden colonnade, several spa houses and the Social house has quickly become one of the most sought-after European spa towns. To create a true spa environment, the inhabitants of Františkovy Lázně  have surrounded the historic center with a broad stretch of English landscape parks, intended to bestow the appearance of a garden city on the village.   

Presently there are 23 actively used healing springs in Františkovy Lázně with temperatures ranging from 8 to 13°C. The mineral water is used for drinking cures, for baths and for preparing peat wraps.  According to healing indications, the local water has a positive effect on heart and circulatory system diseases.

the forest park Amerika belongs to the adornments of Františkovy Lázně. There you can admire the beautiful nature as well as a small zoological park, inhabited by raccoons, llamas or snowy owls.  You can make a nice stroll to the Amerika pond or you can take a ride on a so-called micro-train. 

SOOS - a natural preserve north of Františkovy Lázně (approx. 7 km), a unique environment with mineral springs and gas seepages, peat forests and marsh communities with an abundance of rare species.
